If you've been Googling "night nurse Phoenix" at 2am while holding a baby who simply refuses to sleep or needs specialized care, first of all, you're doing great. Second, you've landed in exactly the right place.
You might be looking specifically for a night nurse or baby nurse for overnight support if your little one is fresh out of the NICU, has recently been hospitalized, or is medically complex.
You might be looking specifically for a night nurse or baby nurse if your little one is fresh out of the NICU, has recently been hospitalized, or is medically complex.
Many of my clients have specialized medical needs, such as being on oxygen, NG tubes, sternal precautions, failure to thrive, severe reflux, and even congenital heart defects.
Let's Clear Something Up Right Away
"Night nurse" is actually a colloquial term — a nickname that's been passed around in parenting circles for decades. It doesn't refer to a registered nurse who comes to your home at night. It refers to someone who provides professional overnight newborn care so you can actually sleep. That someone might be called a newborn care specialist, a postpartum doula, or a night nanny.
We don't use the "night nurse" term professionally any longer as it caused confusion with practicioners using the term that were not actual nurses. In fact, even when you hire an RN as a postpartum doula or newborn care specialist, they typically are not functioning under their RN license. That means they are not providing medical care, making clinical decisions, or practicing with a hospital or clinical scope. Instead, they are offering non-medical newborn care and support in the home.
To be completely transparent: I am not a nurse, and I don't provide medical care. What I do provide is the warm, skilled, hands-on overnight support that families mean when they say they're looking for a night nurse in Phoenix, AZ.

And I bring something most overnight care providers simply can't offer: I am one of fewer than 100 Certified NICU Doulas in the entire country, with specialized training and hands-on experience supporting medically complex infants and their families. Whether your baby came home from a NICU stay, has ongoing medical needs, or you're just navigating a high-anxiety postpartum season — I've been trained for exactly this.
*There are tasks that require a RN (IV medications, hands on tracheostomy care, medical assesment, etc), however usually if you have care that requires a nurse you will be provided with home health resources as you are discharged from the hospital.
When Phoenix families search for night nurse services, here's what they're really looking for:
Overnight infant care: Sleep in uninterrupted stretches (yes, this is real and it is glorious)
Feeding support: Whether you're breastfeeding, pumping, formula feeding, tube feeding, or navigating some combination of all three, I'll handle night feeds and help you troubleshoot
Soothing and settling: Some babies need a little extra help winding down — I'm a certified Happiest Baby on the Block instructor, so I know a thing or two about the 5 S's
Newborn education: so you leave our time together feeling more confident, not just more rested
Baby tracking: Support with logging feeding times, diaper counts, sleep windows, so you're never flying blind.
Emotional support: The postpartum season is a lot, and sometimes you just need someone calm in your corner who has extensive experience with newborns.
Specialized support for medically complex babies: If your infant has been in the NICU, has a cardiac condition, feeding challenges, or other medical complexities, my NICU doula training means I understand your world in a way most overnight care providers don't.
Here's where things get interesting. A "night nurse" is typically someone with childcare experience who specializes in newborns. A certified postpartum doula like me brings all of that plus specialized training in the postpartum period — for both baby and you.
I hold my postpartum doula certification through DTI (Doulas of North America Training Institute) with additional specialized NICU training from the NICU Doula Academy, making me one of the rare providers in the Phoenix area equipped to support families bringing home a medically complex infant. My volunteer work at Phoenix Children's Hospital's Cardiovascular ICU keeps that training sharp and grounded in real-world experience.
That's a level of expertise that goes well beyond what most families expect when they search for overnight baby care in Phoenix.
Families come to us at The Phoenix Poppins at all kinds of stages:
New parents who need support in the first days and weeks after delivery
NICU families transitioning home and navigating the particular exhaustion and anxiety that comes with it
Babies with medical complexity cardiac conditions, feeding challenges, prematurity — whose families need a care provider who truly understands their situation
Parents of multiples who quickly discover that two babies at 2am is a math problem they weren't prepared for
Families without a nearby support system who need a trusted, experienced presence
Second (or third) time parents who remember how hard the newborn phase was and have wisely decided not to white-knuckle it again
You may also hear the term newborn care specialist (NCS) used interchangeably with "night nurse." Like a night nurse, an NCS focuses specifically on infant care — often overnight — and typically has specialized training in newborn routines, sleep foundations, and feeding.
As a certified postpartum and NICU doula, my scope is a bit broader: I support both the baby and the birthing person during the postpartum period. Think of it as getting a night nurse and a postpartum doula rolled into one — with the added peace of mind that comes from NICU-level training. Which, honestly, is a pretty good deal.
Because I value being thorough, I also am a trained Newborn Care Specialist (trained by Newborn Care Specialists).
